With a few hours to spare I headed out to start mapping the network of trails in the Black Forest with the Garmin 405. I’m not much of a GPS junky but it’s great to have when riding new areas, not to find your way around (that’s what eyes are for IMO) but to have an accurate map afterwards. (more…)
With my geared hub out of a wheel and heading back to Switzerland I’ve been thinking more about what GUni to make next. The 36’er GUni was great fun for XC off road riding — a super speed machine with two genuinely useful gears — but TBH I ended up feeling I wasn’t making the most of the hub, and given I don’t have any interest in road riding just to make better use of the hub chances are it won’t be going back into a 36’er. I headed out to Mount Macedon today looking for a off road loop suitable for the next monthly MUni ride on August 9th. The single track MTB trails at Woodend would be great to use but are just too wet at this time of the year, and with the busy MTB weekend traffic on the trails maybe not the best place for new MUni riders. Now that the students at Bullarto have earnt their unicycle wings the next step is getting off smooth surfaces and onto riding off road. In a perfect world it would be great to have a collection of 20″ Trials/Mountain unicycles for the students to use once they’ve outgrown the Learner unicycles but cost-wise there isn’t anything available between the 20″ Learner unicycles and the 20″ Nimbus ISIS Trials – a collection of the latter would cost a bunch, let alone KH20’s.
