I headed out to Mount Macedon today looking for a off road loop suitable for the next monthly MUni ride on August 9th. The single track MTB trails at Woodend would be great to use but are just too wet at this time of the year, and with the busy MTB weekend traffic on the trails maybe not the best place for new MUni riders. Maybe later!

It turns out there aren’t just a lot of tracks in the Macedon area but also a signed cycling trail through the forest, cool.

I hadn’t ridden my 24″ MUni for a while so took it along for a spin. A smaller wheel would also give me a better idea of how the trails will feel to the younger guys who come along riding 20″ Trials/MUni’s.

Most of the Macedon Regional Park Cycling Trail is old fire track making for easy cruising interspersed with climbs and descents, some quite steep.

Single track cuts across the main trail every now and then — will be great to have the single track as an option for riders wanting more of a challenge.

The official trail markers are kinda kooky at times – you can go up down, in all directions apparently and still be on the trail, doh!

After a cruise around the trail I was back at the van, definitely a possibility for the monthly MUni. I had some time to spare so then rode the loop in the opposite direction which turned out to be a lot more enjoyable.

 

All up a great fun ride. Was fun to be on the 24″ again — while I missed the speed of bigger wheels at times, I definitely noticed the increased climbing power and control of the 24″. It still didn’t stop my shins from getting intimate with the steel pins on the pedals, and  me eating it in a muddy section just before the end of the ride – the mud here sure is deep, like quicksand! 🙂
