Ay Up! Lights Review

Summer 2008/2009 in Southern Australia was extremely hot and dry. With day rides in the forest not always a good idea I started to ride in the cooler evenings and was hooked – unicycling off road at night is huge funĀ  – and began looking for a good light system. My last experience with night riding was in the early 90’s – MTB’ing in the mountains around my home in Victoria’s High Country using a NiteRider which was super bright, but also super heavy (the battery was the shape of a large water bottle). The Niterider battery didn’t last long especially in the cold mountain temperatures (I rode home in the dark a few times!) and all up was crazy expensive at the time, but night MTB’ing was a definitely a hoot. Lake Wendouree Cruise

I had a few jobs to do in Ballarat (a regional ‘city’ in country Victoria) including dropping off the plans for the latest XC GUNI Bar prototype (should be ready late next week!) and took the 36 GUNI along just in case I had some spare time for a ride. As it turned out I had just enough time for a quick 15 minute cruise around Lake Wendouree, which for the last few years has been a lake in name only due to the ongoing drought conditions. The lake is bone dry and has even caught on fire over the last couple of summers! (more…)
