Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2.4 29″ Tire

At the end of last winter I changed tires on the KH29 from the Panaracer Rampage 2.35 – which had been an excellent winter/wet weather tire – to the Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2.4. With its much tighter tread I hoped it would suit the dry summer conditions. As Autumn now heads towards the next Winter it’s time to swap tires again and look back at how the Racing Ralph has performed over summer. (more…)

Lake Wendouree Cruise

I had a few jobs to do in Ballarat (a regional ‘city’ in country Victoria) including dropping off the plans for the latest XC GUNI Bar prototype (should be ready late next week!) and took the 36 GUNI along just in case I had some spare time for a ride. As it turned out I had just enough time for a quick 15 minute cruise around Lake Wendouree, which for the last few years has been a lake in name only due to the ongoing drought conditions. The lake is bone dry and has even caught on fire over the last couple of summers! (more…)

Just like on a bicycle, I’m interested in knowing more about my natural cadence on a unicycle. As nerdy as it sounds, sometimes knowing how the feeling of spinning translates to numbers is handy e.g. an amount of subjectivity regarding how today’s ride went is removed – were you really spinning hard or not, in the groove or all over the place? Chub Oversized Hub for 36er?

While dropping off the 29″ Freeride rim for a custom wheel build I noticed a very cool road wheel in the workshop with a HUGE hub – a Chub hub by The Hive. I’ve been messing with the idea of prototyping an oversized hub for ‘narrow’ single speed 36 wheels (for an improved feel, much like the larger Schlumpf hub provides) and here was pretty much exactly it, apart from being for a bicycle.
