Out scoping trails in the bush this afternoon I came across three old school dirt farmers trucking along without a care in the world. Echidnas are usually insanely cautious around people and burrow at the slightest disturbance – it was an awesome treat to spend an hour or so roaming the hill with them! (more…)
The trail fairies have been busy in Woodbrook. Not the Grand Canyon has had a major overhaul and flows so sweetly now, especially in reverse! Plus somewhere on the Woodbrook loop _night_ riders will come across a VERY cool easter egg… not shown here 🙂 (more…)
There’s nothing like a mountain bike ride on a sub zero degrees night or thereabouts to get your blood pumping! Thought I should mark the convergence of the Winter solstice and Super Moon with a night ride – the first on the Mojo HDR 650b. A cold and clear Winter’s night combined with gripped up trails made for perfecto conditions. About 18 months ago a fuel reduction burn got a little out of hand and scorched a favorite section of bush. Since then the wildlife has slowly returned as things start to grow back. I saw the first koala since the burn the other day, down low in a tree right beside the singletrack. Nice! Here’s a snap taken of the drop bear with the phone. (more…)
What a great day the inaugural Goldfields Steam Train Challenge AKA Race the Train turned out to be! Cyclists could opt to ‘Race’ the train on the dirt trails that run beside the railway from Castlemaine to Maldon, or join in the social ‘Ride’ back from Maldon to Castlemaine. (more…)
