Three sunny and cool Winter days equaled an idyllic Queens Birthday long weekend in Central Victoria so when the chance came up to ride the Mt Franklin to Vaughan Springs section of the Great Dividing Trail (now called the Goldfields Track Victoria) I jumped on it, even though I last rode it a week ago and was still feeling pretty well beat up from a recent crash. As opportunity allows I’ve been slowly exploring the Fryers Ridge State Forest, home to the Hippie Track and other goodies. I figured a ride to the fire lookout tower was a good place to start as it’s key landmark perched on the ridge looking over the forest and in theory it’s all downhill from here (yeah right!). (more…)

Not as much riding lately mainly due to a touch of the flu over the last few weeks, combined with mainly grey, cold, damp overcast days. I’ve started to feel better over the last couple of days so made the most of a sunny, clear morning — last day of Autumn — and headed out to Mt Tarrengower to check out the trails above the area known as The Butts.
