After a chance meeting at The Bike Vault on Saturday Chris and I headed over to the Central Highlands to ride the Mt Franklin to Vaughan Springs section of the Great Dividing Trail. (more…)
As opportunity allows I’ve been slowly exploring the Fryers Ridge State Forest, home to the Hippie Track and other goodies. I figured a ride to the fire lookout tower was a good place to start as it’s key landmark perched on the ridge looking over the forest and in theory it’s all downhill from here (yeah right!). (more…)

Not as much riding lately mainly due to a touch of the flu over the last few weeks, combined with mainly grey, cold, damp overcast days. I’ve started to feel better over the last couple of days so made the most of a sunny, clear morning — last day of Autumn — and headed out to Mt Tarrengower to check out the trails above the area known as The Butts. Tarrengower is thought to be an Aboriginal word meaning ‘big rough hill’. You’d be hard pressed to come up with a more fitting name for the popular downhill location near Maldon, Central Victoria. Mt Tarrengower is made from hornsfels, a collection of super heated and hardened volcanic rocks. Beneath the tree cover there is no shortage of rough stuff. (more…)
Heading out on an MTB ride from hippie-ville involves crossing up and over a heavily mined bush reserve directly behind our place. It’s a great fun way to start each ride as jetting down the through the bush reserve before briefly entering suburbia reminds me of Batman and Robin leaving the (original) Batcave, with the Batman intro theme playing in my head of course! 😛 (more…)
