A ‘bonus feature’ of mountain unicycling is how incredibly quiet unicycles are. Apart from the sound of the tread on ground they’re virtually silent out on the trail. MTB’s on the other hand, mainly thanks to the drivetrain and suspension, can make a crap load of noise. That’s part of the trade off I guess but it’s those random ‘new’ creaks that MTB’s make from time to time that can drive you to distraction.
I’ve been trying to track down one such random sound on the Mojo HD for a while now. It’s a new creaking sound that only happens every now and then, coming from somewhere at the front of the bike, usually when climbing. Headset, stem and bars headed straight to the top of the list of things to check, but in the end the culprit turned out to be where two lines – the rear brake line and rear derailleur cable – are clamped at the top the down tube.
Remove the clip, clean everything, lightly grease, re-assemble. Tadaa. Noise gone 🙂
