Hellrose Melrose

It’s about a 12 hour drive to Melrose from Central Victoria but you forget all of that in the final few kilometers as the road swings directly toward the side of Mt Remarkable. Driving fatigue is replaced with a serious hankering to get on the MTB and hit the trails ASAP. So that’s what I did. A quick run down Dodging Bullets and the Northern Mini Super D got the eyes open and blood pumping in no time. (more…)

Drop Bear Returns

About 18 months ago a fuel reduction burn got a little out of hand and scorched a favorite section of bush. Since then the wildlife has slowly returned as things start to grow back. I saw the first koala since the burn the other day, down low in a tree right beside the singletrack. Nice! Here’s a snap taken of the drop bear with the phone. (more…)

The cool damp weather didn’t last long at all. It’s been a hot, dry and dusty start to Autumn – perfect I guess for more night riding! I’ve been enjoying becoming more familiar with fresh trails at night as well as testing new Exposure bike lights (big thanks to BikeBox). But then if we never *take* time, how can we have time?’ (Merovingian, Matrix Reloaded). OK It’s not a great quote, the one about cursing in French being like wiping your arse with silk is much funnier but I digress. The short version is seeing all people rushing around like ants in the city with all these clocks ticking time away reminded me to get my own arse into gear. (more…)

Spring Warmth

Gotta admit… it feels better than ever to feel the warmth of the Spring sun! A run of sunny days is just what the doctor ordered to help send a lingering respiratory infection on its way. I hadn’t ridden the local trails since before heading off to Melrose close to a month ago, so it felt weird and new all over again riding around today. (more…)

Eurovision, Bartagunyah Trails

Melrose has no shortage of sweet hand made single track but for locals and visitors alike it’s always fun to have somewhere new/different to ride. Rich and Al from Over the Edge have long been working on a plan to add a new gravity/flow run to Bartagunyah trails, a 2000+ acre rolling property on the edge of town which Al’s family own and is already home to the Whiskey Trail. Pretty cool when you think about – a huge property chock full of great MTB terrain owned by folk into biking and located just on the edge of town! (more…)
