Fuel Reduction Burn
The bush around Castlemaine has been in fine form this Spring, pumping full of new growth, wildflowers and critters after the drought breaking rain last Summer. Ironically Spring also coincided with the posting of burning operation notices on trees here and there, to occur before the Summer fire season weather permitting. Bittersweet really. The imminent burn was one of the main motivating forces behind my little Spring Equinox movie, so at least among other things it would be a personal record/momento of what the bush was like. (more…)
Light Ride
Things have been kinda quiet in hippie land the last few weeks. I’ve been heading down to Melbourne once a week for treatment on my neck and as part of that have been doing my best to behave. On the neck movement scale of 1-4 it rated 0-1 initially, now up to 2. It still feels fairly ordinary but the feeling of pressure in my head has started to ease, which is great since it’s been that way since June! Few more weeks to go yet. (more…)
Butting Out
Fine and cool with virtually no wind — what a cracker of a day. Had to get out to The Butts at Mt Tarrengower this afternoon to make the most of it. I really enjoy it up there, lots of fun riding, rugged bush and boulders, views, peace and quiet… and loads of white wildflowers out. (more…)
Ken’s Loop
Had a fun time on Ken’s Loop (or Ken’s Track) this week. It flows well and has a bit of everything — rocks, smooths, ups, downs, fasts, slows — and is in great condition ATM. (more…)
Man in Black
Been feeling like Johnny Cash lately, not because of the many times my dad played his records as a kid, but because the riding stuff I’ve been wearing over and over and over is black… ok not exactly, but pretty dark overall. (more…)
Poverty Gully
Warm, sunny Spring morning. I was itching to get out and make the most of a couple of spare hours after work, so I headed over to Poverty Gully as I hadn’t been over that way for a while. It’s good fun with some scrabbly rock sections, lots of cruisey single track, a few short climbs, as well as being a handy way to get onto the Goldfields Track/Great Dividing Trail. Lots of wildflowers out over that way too. (more…)
Four Seasons
Scraping the ice off the car windscreen in the morning, scrubbing the pool clean in the afternoon – it’s gotta be Spring in Victoria! (more…)
