The sun turned it on today so with a couple of hours to spare I grabbed the KH24 GUni and headed into the nearby state forest. You’d reckon that after huge rain last weekend the trails would be muddy to the max, but the terrain is so harsh in this part of Central Victoria the water drains away and the bush dries out in no time.

Not being familiar with this part of the forest I followed trails as I came across them – winding back and forth all over the hills – and ended up on two trails with distinct themes: Old Bones and Beer!

A few trees had an amazing saturated orange/yellow fungus/growth that appeared to be bursting out of the trunks. Very cool looking, the texture and color standing out in the blue/grey colors of the bush. Looked good enough to eat!

I came across one beer bottle by the trail, then another, and another, and another, and so it went. I figured this was the Beer Trail… only in Australia.

Out of the native bush and into the eerie remains of an old pine plantation with super fresh, lush green ground cover.

The KH24 GUni is running great, but maybe I felt a change in the cranks today – way overdue checking the bolt tension on those, have to do that before the next ride.

Today’s ride included the fastest UPD I’ve had for some time – one of those traveling too fast, not paying enough attention UPD’s. Before you know it – I’m superman… splat… no wait I’m ploughing the trail with my shoulder.

Ouch. Old bones.
