It’s been a while since I’ve ridden at Mt Lofty, Redesdale which is a bit slack TBH. It’s only 30 or so kilometres from Castlemaine but we’re kinda spoilt with local trails at our doorstep. Riding new or at least less familiar trails is great fun though so with a round of the InterWinter series held at Redesdale over the weekend and a few days of wet weather coming up it was a good opportunity to sneak in a visit to Mt Lofty. Watched The Matrix for the n’th time the other night, always enjoy it! Being out on the trails in the late afternoon is pretty specc’y, like living in the dream world of The Matrix… and like a virus those trails just seem to keep on spreading! (more…)
Have been loving the night rides this Winter. For the most part I’ve got the clothing pretty well sorted, enough to keep warm riding in 0-10 degrees celcius without overheating. A thermal base layer, a super light merino wool short sleeve shirt, a long sleeved merino pullover and a wind shell works out to be just right. Knicks and riding shorts too of course, and wool socks. Melrose in South Australia is one of those places but when you arrive there for the first time it’s a bit like being a kid in a candy store – all that sweet mountain bike MTB trail but no idea of where to start and how to piece it together. Over the course of this year’s Fat Tire Festival probably the most fun run I found is shown below. Starting from the campground it’s one scenic, enjoyable climb to the highest point on Hellrose followed by a fun descent, 2/3 of which was part of the Mini-D time trial course. (more…)
If you’re out in the woods on dusk and are berry berry quiet you might catch a glimpse of the trail fairies sprinkling their magic single track dust… or… you might just get distracted, eat it into a tree and be found unconscious and frozen in the morning 🙂 (more…)
There were some seriously cool demo bikes available at the Melrose Fat Tire Festival including none other than the Ibis Mojo SL-R, the newer 140mm ‘little brother’ of the Mojo HD. There are relatively few (in any!) chances to demo an SL-R in Victoria, and with Ibis one of the festival sponsors there was nothing else to do but take one for a spin! (more…)
