The third stop in the Chuck Ibis Down Under road trip was Tasmania’s epic Blue Tier trail, Weldborough. Short version: It’s MTB Bucket List stuff!

Having spent the afternoon riding the trails at Derby we were keen to get over to the Weldborough Hotel, a superb country pub that also happens to be located at the bottom of the renowned Blue Tier descent.

The Weldborough Hotel didn’t disappoint that’s for sure! Owners Mark and Felicity’s hospitality was legendary, complimented by awesome pub grub and craft beers. After a great night’s sleep Mark shuttled us up to the start of the Blue Tier Descent.

So what’s the big deal about the Blue Tier Descent?

You’ve probably seen older MTB guys go all misty eyed as they reminisce about wild riding adventures back in the day. Barreling down ‘trails’ (hiking, animal, moto, fire etc) made without any thought that one day someone might be dumb enough to ride down them on a bike. That was MTB in its entirety and it was a blast.

And that’s what riding the Blue Tier Descent is like. With its massive mix of granite slabs and boulders, bog holes, ferns, rocks, rainforest, roots, river crossings, warping descents and then some, it’s old school mountain biking at its best… but we get to enjoy it all over again on modern trail eating uber bikes. Sweet.

Seriously, if you haven’t ridden the Blue Tier Descent, get your shit sorted and head on down to Weldborough ASAP!

Apologies for the relative lack of photos. Was having too much fun riding on the day!
