Back in July 2012 I posted about excessive bearing play in the drive side Shimano XTR Trail pedal after only a few months of use. As I discovered back then it’s an all too common problem with XTR Trail pedals.
Here are few related threads online of riders who have experienced similar problems:
- XTR Trail Pedals – premature bearing wear
- PD-M985 Pedal issues
- Anyone else had an XTR pedal come off its axle
- MTBR Shimano XTR Trail PD-M985 AM Pedal Reviews
I purchased a pair of bottom of the range Shimano Trail pedals to get me by while the LBS worked at getting the XTR’s replaced under warranty, which eventually happened (thanks guys!). Fast forward a few more months with the replacement pedals and I’m a little bummed that again the drive side pedal bearing has crapped out already.
Time to put on the Deore pedals and do the XTR warranty dance again…
