Want to go canyoning in the icy waters of Cradle Mountain in North West Tasmania? Hell yeah!

I’ve wanted to go canyoning in Tassie since moving here a couple of years ago. As kids we always loved hiking to waterholes and waterfalls and finding things to jump off, so why stop there. I guess it’s one of the best things about being ‘grown up’ – taking fun to levels you could only dream of as a kid.

After a short briefing at Canyons HQ and even shorter bus trip we hiked down through green mossy forest, changing into our wetsuits before abseiling down into Dove Canyon. The next few hours were a terrific blur of jumping off waterfalls, sliding down rock chutes, floating down icy water (though not as cold as I thought it would be!), scrambling over rocks and generally have a great time. There are six main features/obstacles in the canyon, and the very first is the biggest jump of the day which sets the bar for the rest of the adventure!

All up it’s a perfect bookend to the Cradle Mountain experience! Check out https://cradlemountaincanyons.com.au/ for more info.
