Reward for Effort

My favorite flavor of MTB riding and trails is Reward for Effort. You know – climbs followed by dumb grin descents. Something just seems right about earning your fun, the more pain the more fun! So naturally I guess when it comes to working on new trail I don’t want it to just...

2013 Exposure Diablo Mk4 Review

Modern day MTB lords of darkness have never had it so good. Bike lights these days are for the most part super bright, super efficient, compact and lightweight. Exposure Lights designed and manufactured in the UK by USE Ltd are a great example of where things are at. Thanks to BikeBox (the Australian distributor for Exposure Lights) I’ve been running dual 2013 Exposure Diablo Mk4′s on my helmet, complemented by a handlebar mounted MaxX-D and a Flare rear light. Suffice to say with 3000+ Lumens in total to burn night rides have never been so much fun! Here’s a short night MTB video I made along the way showing the Exposure...

Purdy Thang

The hot Summer rolls on for most parts of Australia. It’s super dry and dusty out in the bush that’s for sure. Some rain would be handy. Still, the heat is a good incentive to wheel the Mojo HD out for a spin at night. I’ve been experimenting with videoing at night lately....

ESI Extra Chunky Gri...

Let’s just cut straight to it – this is the first time I’ve put new grips on a bike and been blown away by the difference they make out on the trail. ESI Extra Chunky Grips are the shiz! I’ve had no complaints with any of my previous grips over the years but TBH unlike...

Fallen

The combination of recent heat and strong winds have left the trails littered with wheel-eating debri, plus the odd fallen tree. The first reaction when I run into a fallen tree is usually to clear it off the trail but the one I literally ran into the other day had a better idea… It had...

It’ll be alrig...

With the run of exceptionally hot Summer weather and everything else that’s been going over the holiday period on I reckon I’ve spent more time riding during the night vs day. An average Summer night around here is 20 degrees or less – throw on some lights and it’s a...

Roll on 2013

Walking past a display of digital clocks in the city the other day I felt like I was in The Matrix: ‘Who has time? Who has time? But then if we never *take* time, how can we have time?’ (Merovingian, Matrix Reloaded). OK It’s not a great quote, the one about cursing in...

Agent Skully

Is Skully not the coolest rear bike light ever? I think so! Skully is… shaped like a skull and the eyes light up red in two modes, constant and flashing. The silicon crossbones wrap around the seatpost and attach to small bones protruding from the skull. What a cool piece of...

Spring Warmth

Gotta admit… it feels better than ever to feel the warmth of the Spring sun! A run of sunny days is just what the doctor ordered to help send a lingering respiratory infection on its way. I hadn’t ridden the local trails since before heading off to Melrose close to a month ago, so...
