Back in January I posted about some scuffing on the inside of the rear seat stay of the HD caused by chain slap. After some research I decided to use Scotch Rubber Mastic 2228 tape. Three months later thought it was time to review how the Mastic tape worked.
Here’s the mastic tape when it was first applied to the inside of the drive side rear seat stay, covering the areas of obvious scuffing:
Here’s the same piece of mastic tape three months later:
As noted on the image:
- There is some minor scuffing on the HD logo. I could’ve made the tape longer but I didn’t want to cover the ‘HD’
- Due to the limited clearance between the frame and chain when on the 11 tooth cog the chain has cut its own groove in the mastic tape, but hasn’t cut it all the way through
Even though the tape has obviously been belted around by the chain it’s still in great condition and doing the exact job I’d hoped it would do.
Mastic Fantastic!
