A recent thread on the unicyclist.com forums regarding how best to lubricate Schlumpf hubs made me think that perhaps using a mixture of bacon grease and bicycle grease isn’t a great idea. Who would’ve guessed huh? 😉

The lube recommendations on the Schlumpf site are:

Please use the Schlumpf original grease or some good bicycle oil.

And:

Insert 3-5ml … once a year

One interesting factoid however is that Schlumpf hubs now appear to ship with a different top up oil, shown below. Does it matter? Don’t know. Funny thing is now I’m not sure which oil shipped with which hub… DOH!
