Mt Barrow is an awesome mountain just off to the side of the A3 highway that runs between Launceston and Derby. I don’t know that a whole lot of people bother to drive up it – there are so many mountains in Tasmania to pick from – but they should. Mt Barrow is dead cool. An awesome piece of road – similar to Jacobs Ladder at Ben Lomond – winds up through massive scree fields leads to a summit packed with dramatic rock formations.
Bloody cold too! Not surprisingly the road up the mountain closes in Winter, there was ice on the rocks mid afternoon today. Not a bad little detour on my way home from the airport!
