It would’ve been so easy to sleep in on this morning, and I’m forever glad I didn’t!
Camped by the side of the road I woke up in the early hours of the morning to the sound of rain and wind. The plan was to be on the summit of Mt Abrupt before dawn, but getting out the sleeping bag took some serious effort.
With one dim head lamp lighting the way I headed out in to night, with a raincoat, snacks and a camera loaded with Kodachrome 64. It wasn’t long before I was soaking wet, but happy to be out on a crazy adventure. Part way up the mountain thick cloud closed in, but I’d come this far already so continued on, reaching the summit just before dawn.
Incredibly right on cue, the clouds began to part at sunrise, sinking into the valley, and then shrouding the surrounding peaks. This is one image out of a sequence taken on that awesome morning!
