Full fingered gloves are the norm when mountain unicycling (MUni) , not because of wind chill due to the blazing speeds achieved on one wheel but because you crash a LOT and your hands and wrists take a beating. It’s not surprising that MUni gloves come with strapping and a flexible splints.

On a mountain bike though I’ve gotten by with wearing fingerless gloves forever but since moving to Central Victoria (and getting older I guess!) those early morning 0-15 degree rides have started to feel even colder. Thanks to Peter and Gary at The Bike Vault in Castlemaine my hands are now kept warm in a pair of Specialized BG Deflect Gloves. They’re wind proof and water resistant, lightweight and comfortable, plus they look pretty funky too all without your hands over cooking.

My shifter thumb is especially happy about the upgrade!
