It’s about a 12 hour drive to Melrose from Central Victoria but you forget all of that in the final few kilometers as the road swings directly toward the side of Mt Remarkable. Driving fatigue is replaced with a serious hankering to get on the MTB and hit the trails ASAP. So that’s what I did. A quick run down Dodging Bullets and the Northern Mini Super D got the eyes open and blood pumping in no time.
After recent rains the trails are in insane condition with loads of grip. Just like Central Victoria it’s still fairly dry, with the hills only just starting to green up. The pic below is taken from one of the riding trails, looking back to the north east over Melrose and the surrounding area.
The Fat Tyre Festival isn’t far off but the main excitement in Melrose the last couple of days has been the stop-over of the Bike SA Mawson Trail ride. The campground went from close to empty to full in the space of a few hours. The riders head off again tomorrow after a rest day with some fairly wild weather forecast for the next two days.
Melrose is an awesome MTB destination!
