With rain forecast over the next day or so thought it would be worth squeezing in a ride. The work van was up at the mechanics in Wesley Hill and needed picking up, a one way ride opportunity too good to miss.

I headed across town on the Mojo to the area of bush below Poverty Gully, a maze of all sorts of tracks in a rocky, thoroughly pillaged… er mined area. Aesthetic I guess in a primitive industrial way if that’s your thing. Beats me though why there is so much interest in preserving mining ‘history’ vs trying to restore the bush. At least get in there with a machine or two and fill some of the deep mine shafts scattered around the place. Oh well, it’s the wild west I tell ya!

After tooling around for a while I headed along Poverty Gully, up to The Monk, out to Spring Gully and back, then down into Chewton along the Great Dividing Trail. A fun cruise, we’re certainly fortunate to have the GDT running through Castlemaine for when the mood takes ya.
