From the bulldozer activity today it looks like the fuel reduction burn planned for earlier in the Summer is now on the cards for a large area of bush on the north west edge of town, the aim being to reduce the risk and severity of catastrophic bush fire events by reducing the amount of fuel. That’s the theory anyway, it’s a practice that has as many detractors as supporters.
The same area of bush also contains quite a few riding trails, so yeah… that’s a bummer. I guess the thing to do is make the most of it until the burn takes place — the weather can be a fickle thing so you never know — and then help repair the trails afterwards. It definitely was a surprise this morning to come across a fresh bulldozer width clearing through the bush where there was once just a trail.
I did have a good ride though, had a good groove going and with a base level of MTB fitness it’s a lot more fun.
