Well I guess trail conditions in Central Victoria could be best described as damp this morning, as the leftovers of the weather system that flooded southern Queensland and northern NSW passed over.
All up it made for a wild delivery run in the early hours of this morning — strong winds, power lines down, trees down, flooded roads. A front row seat in the Redbeard van, who would have thought sourdough bread could form the basis of a danger sport!
Forrest and Barkers Creeks meet in the centre of Castlemaine (another example of excellent town planning) and this time around have risen higher than during the Oct/Nov floods last year, temporarily cutting the town in two. We’re on the side of town WITHOUT chocolate.
The terrain around here is so razed and pillaged from gold mining, hardly a gram of topsoil to be seen, it doesn’t take long for water to run off so won’t be long before the trails are good to go.
Really something to observe though, nature doing its thing — no malice involved, people and their stuff just get in the way sometimes.
Footnote: By around 7pm The water level through Castlemaine looks to have dropped 1.5-2m since the middle of the day. A hot sunny blue sky picture perfect afternoon. Apart from the cleaning up you’d hardly reckon anything unusual happened today.
