Heading north out of Brisbane after riding Gap Creek took me right past Bunyaville State Forest, home to another network of MTB trails that I’d checked out earlier online. I couldn’t resist the temptation!

I parked at the James Drysdale Recreation Reserve just off Jinker Track and hit the trails in the following order: 4,5,6,3,2,10,1,8. With an obvious worn line for the most part and trail maps scattered around the loop it was pretty easy to find my way.

Bunyaville sort of felt like a scaled down Gap Creek, which is a good thing as I seriously enjoyed Gap Creek! Similar flow, sweet turns and ride options, just set in bush with less vert that is also a little drier (but still green and lush compared to Central Vic).

I’ve often wondered if living in a city and living the MTB dream were genuinely compatible. Would there be places to ride that didn’t feel too far away? Checking out great riding locations like Glenrock, Daisy Hill, Gap Creek and Bunyaville certainly gave me food for thought as I headed out of Brisbane towards North Queensland to visit my folks, and maybe squeeze in some riding at Townsville, Cairns and Atherton.
