Gotta admit… it feels better than ever to feel the warmth of the Spring sun! A run of sunny days is just what the doctor ordered to help send a lingering respiratory infection on its way. I hadn’t ridden the local trails since before heading off to Melrose close to a month ago, so it felt weird and new all over again riding around today.
Melrose in late Winter was uber green, so the first thing I noticed was how NOT green the bush around Castlemaine is – very dry and grey/brown year round by comparison Another big difference is that most of the trails in Melrose are elevated and out in the open – great views but also exposed to the weather. Trails around the Maine trade views for shelter, most of them set in fairly thick bush. I was also surprised by how dry the local trails were, along with the lack of grip. How quickly you forget!
