The Wombat MTB Trail on the outskirts of Woodend gets pretty busy during the weekends. I’ve been wanting to get back there since the last Vanilla Slice Quest so thought it would be best to go Wombat Off Peak and headed over late afternoon. During the week you pretty much have the place to yourself.

The trail is in prime condition ATM, not dusty and dry like things have got around Castlemaine but tacky and green with a few damp patches here and there. It’s great fun blatting around the flatter ‘half’ of the trail, flowing with as much speed as possible without getting snagged while passing between trees barely handlebar width apart. The best fun though is the steeper ‘half’ of the Wombat, dropping through lush green gullies, more speed, more grooving singletrack. The only bummer is it’s finished just as you’re getting started.
