I’d read reports online that Tasmania’s glow in the dark (and toxic) Ghost Fungus AKA omphalotus nidiformis were doing their thang on the Tasman Peninsula so the lovely Ms Keller and I downed tools and headed for the Coal Mine Historic site, which is a like a mini Port Arthur… but without cruise ships.
The coal mine is an eerie spot in its own right – the moonlit sandstone ruins where the worst of the worst convicts were imprisoned back in the days. OK so they probably only stole a few loaves of bread, but don’t let that ruin the story… damn British barbarians hey!
Let your eyes adjust and the nocturnal scene is made even spookier by the dull glow radiating from the bush, here and there.
Those darn ghost fungus, coming for your convict soul… and the some.
