Night Rides

Melrose Nightlife

I headed out for an evening ride on Dodging Bullets the other day and lucked a rising full moon over the Willochra Plains, which were also sprinkled with tractor lights as farmers worked 24/7 to get their crops planted. Pretty awesome sight I have to say!

Pump Track

A very cool modular pump track has been installed just down the path from where the trail crew is living at Mt Buller. Apparently it’s the first of its type in Australia, cool.

I’m still on my pump track L plates but I had to head down and check it out one evening after work. The track itself is quite narrow and the surface is super grippy – a fun and fast combo.

Check out the groovy light trails my Exposure Lights painted. I’m looking forward to messing around on the pump track some more.

Glow Worms

There are hundreds of these… ‘glow worms’ in a section of Castlemaine forest. You’ll have to ride the trails at night to see them!

Not the Grand Canyon

I spent a couple of hours late in the day digging a little trail down an eroded gully. It might not be the Grand Canyon but it’s still a pretty cool setting. I’ve often walked along it and wondered what it would be like to ride it. Turns out it’s good fun. I went back in the evening to check it out and snapped a couple of spooky pics, thanks to the Exposure Flare red tail light illuminating the gully walls.

Heavy Grey Clouds

You could almost feel the weight of the heavy grey clouds as a chunky weather front slowly moved across Central Victoria last night. It might have been still, warm & humid ahead of the change but for whatever reason it ended up being awesome conditions for a night ride.

2013 Mont 24 Hour

What an adventure into the unknown the 2013 Mont 24 Hour turned out to be. While I’d heard of ‘the Mont 24’, not being into the competitive XC MTB scene I had no idea how huge it was. I was expecting maybe a few hundred riders tops, not over 3,000 riders plus family and friends camping on the edge of the East Kowen Forest… funny!!! I guess for me that was really the story of the Mont – experiencing and enjoying a large scale MTB event.

Off to Ride the Kow

I’m not into competitive cycling in any form, but I am excited to be heading to the Mont 24 Hour later this month. I’m looking forward to riding somewhere completely new to me and sampling some of Canberra’s fabled MTB trails, both in the day and night. If the 18km course map is anything to go by it looks like it’ll be fun weekend. I’ll be hanging out at Camp BikeBox, thanks fellas!
