Felt like a bit of an XC cruise today so after a quick spin around some of the Baco single track I headed out towards Maldon. Sunday also happens to be one of the days the Victorian Goldfields Railway runs between Castlemaine and Maldon. Hearing the steam train chuff along and whistle in the distance sounds great when you’re out on a ride — yeah I am a sucker for steam trains! I ended up tooling around, spending a lot of time near Muckleford watching storm clouds build up and pass over. I met up with the steam train twice, at the old Muckleford trestle bridge on its way to Castlemaine and then at Muckleford Station on the way back to...
Water fall

Almost ended up in the drink today! The trail drops down into a gully, crossing the top of a small seasonal waterfall. After rain the wet slimey rocks at the top of the ledge can get MEGA slippery and while it’s only a very short section the trail runs within a few inches of the edge....
Edge of the Burbs

I reckon there’s an invisible line you cross during every ride, where the toil and trouble of the day ceases to exist and the adventure begins. For me that line is often located somewhere around the Edge of the Burbs which fortunately is only a minute or two’s ride from where we...

Lying in bed last night listening to the howling winds and teeming rain I thought dang you’ve really gotta love riding in the bush to plan a 20-30km single track ride when the forecast includes sleet, hail, storms, strong winds with a cosey temperature around ride time of 6 degrees to...

Three sunny and cool Winter days equaled an idyllic Queens Birthday long weekend in Central Victoria so when the chance came up to ride the Mt Franklin to Vaughan Springs section of the Great Dividing Trail (now called the Goldfields Track Victoria) I jumped on it, even though I last rode it...

Crash day finally arrived today, biggest crash in a long time and first decent one on the Mojo HD. It hurt, and taught me a good lesson too. Not that I didn’t get fair warning that I was being stupid… First I took a berm way too fast, even more so considering it was still fairly...

After a chance meeting at The Bike Vault on Saturday Chris and I headed over to the Central Highlands to ride the Mt Franklin to Vaughan Springs section of the Great Dividing Trail. With its combination of flowing bush single track and loss of elevation it’s the most popular and maybe...
Fryers Ridge

As opportunity allows I’ve been slowly exploring the Fryers Ridge State Forest, home to the Hippie Track and other goodies. I figured a ride to the fire lookout tower was a good place to start as it’s key landmark perched on the ridge looking over the forest and in theory...

Two sunny, clear and cold days — what a cracker of a start to Winter! You’ve just gotta get out there and enjoy the blue skies if you can as the next few months could just as well be grey, damp and bleak. I guess I’m a bit of a rabid dog when it comes to seeking out new trails to...
